In order to start making money online, you’ll need to come up with a solid business idea that people will be willing to pay you for. But just coming up with an idea isn’t enough; you need to know how to make it successful, and that means being both creative and realistic about your business model and your target audience. 1) Create an online course

I don’t know a lot of online business owners who got started by making courses, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be extremely profitable. A good example is Wistia, which offers video hosting solutions to businesses and now has more than 1 million customers.


2) Drive traffic from social media platforms

If you’re looking to make money online, then you’ll need traffic. There are numerous ways to get more visitors on your website, like social media marketing and SEO. You could write a guide on how to use one of these strategies or just create an informative post about them.


3) Blog about food

​If you want to make money blogging, a great place to start is by writing about food. Food blogs are some of the most popular on both Tumblr and WordPress. This may have something to do with how much we all love food, but it also has a lot to do with how hungry people are for information about cooking healthy meals. If you’re passionate about anything related to food (or even if you just like eating!), consider starting a food-focused WordPress or Tumblr page.


4) Create eBooks and white papers

For example, you could look into creating an eBook (or white paper) related to your service. This is a very effective way to get more exposure for your business and grow your email list at the same time. For example, if you’re a freelance writer, you could create an eBook with tips on freelancing and then sell it on freelance job sites for around $20. You can also leverage a landing page or lead magnet with an opt-in form attached to generate more leads for free.


5) Deliver value with a free ebook or course

You can start your online business while giving away something valuable to build trust with potential customers. Your free offer doesn’t need to be related to your main product or service, but it’s crucial that it directly benefits your target audience. It should also help establish you as an expert in your field and give you credibility with your market so they can buy from you with confidence. Free videos, email courses, whitepapers and ebooks are some of my favorite ways to deliver value.


6) Build an email list with content upgrades

The internet isn’t always a friendly place. Whether you’re selling products or services, creating content, or promoting another brand, you’ll be confronted with negative feedback, threats of legal action, and other headaches along your journey. Protect yourself by building an email list of subscribers who are loyal to your brand. If things take a turn for the worse, all of your contact information will be in one place instead of spread across social media profiles and comments sections.


7) Invest in your own brand

If you have a product, service or expertise to sell online, consider launching your own branded website and building your mailing list to make money off of email marketing. In order to build an online presence that draws in visitors interested in what you offer, you’ll need to spend time on search engine optimization (SEO) for your business website. Make sure to optimize your website and backlinks as much as possible, so that when prospective customers search for related products or services, they’ll find you first.
